RCIA Breaking Open the Word Leader

The RCIA Catechumens take part in Breaking Open the Word sessions most Sundays.  The leader reads, reflects, and prays with the scripture for the particular Sunday he/she is assigned to lead the session.  He/she also uses resources available in the parish library and reputable websites to prepare points of discussion on the themes found in the Sunday scriptures.  The point of the session is to help the candidates come to a better understanding of what God is saying to them through Sacred Scripture and how they can apply it to their lives.  It is also to help reinforce the teachings of the Church.

The sessions usually take place at the 9:00 am Mass on Sundays.  They start after the homily when the priest dismisses the catechumens.  The sessions are held in the Library found in the basement of the Moore Center.

Breaking Open the Word leaders are encouraged to seek certification through the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Equip for Ministry program, but certification is not a requirement for becoming a leader.  Catechists should have knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Faith, be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, love the Lord, and desire to deepen his/her relationship with Him and help others do the same.  Lectors and RCIA catechists would generally make good Breaking Open the Word leaders.  Contact Deacon George Sisson in the parish office for more information.  To learn more about the RCIA process, click here
