Child and Youth Protection Policy - STAND Procedure

The Archdiocese of Baltimore and Holy Family Catholic Community have a strong commitment to supporting healthy ministry to children and youth and take seriously the safety and well being of your children in every aspect of their lives. When you entrust us with their care, we strive to provide a protective environment in which they will be safe. For this reason all volunteers are required to comply with the STAND program requirements.  Detailed requirements for volunteers with substantial contact and without substantial contact can be found here.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore recently joined more than ninety dioceses using VIRTUS as a training and compliance management system.  If you were trained and screened using the Shield the Vulnerable website, all of your information should have transferred over.  The requirements have all remained the same - training and screening must  be redone every 5 years.

Reporting Abuse

The Archdiocese of Baltimore complies with Maryland laws requiring reporting suspected child abuse to civil authorities. Under Maryland Law any person who has reason to believe a child has been subjected to abuse must report the suspected abuse to civil authorities, even if the potential victim is now over 18 years old and even in cases where the alleged perpetrator is deceased. If someone associated with the Church, including clergy, employees, or volunteers of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, is suspected of abuse, then the suspected abuse must also be reported to the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection at 410-547-5438 or the Victims Assistance Hotline at 1-866-417-7469.
